If you think this blog is about a fashion show, well it is not.
Perhaps it has happened to you, it has happened to me quite a bit by the way when you go to a workshop or a presentation the presenter gives you a formula or steps for you to follow them to the letter and when you do it they can guarantee successful results.
Perhaps you see value in what it’s been said in a workshop and you decide to follow the steps or use the formula, but then when you do it you notice that you can’t get the results that’s been promised, no matter how many times you’ve tried. And the more you do it the more frustrated you get to the point that you give it up altogether.
The reason that you couldn’t get the results is that the human brain is designed to adapt and learn but we all do it in different ways; the way I learn differently from your way of learning.
Having said that, when you copy a formula or steps that still work for a person they may not work for you for several reason; perhaps you don’t understand it, perhaps you feel uncomfortable doing it the way they’ve asked you to do or perhaps it doesn’t feel natural to you.
There is a solution to this though.
Instead of copying the other, you can model them.
Modelling is not about doing exactly how the other does things.
Modelling is about observing the other and adapting it to your way of doing it.
If it’s possible, ask the person how they do it. If not observe them; watch closely how they do it and then make it your own.
In other words, modelling is about making things your own.
When you model you replace frustration to motivation to keep going until you get the results you want.
The advantage of modelling is that the process feels comfortable and natural to you.
Let’s take action right now.
Give modelling a try. You can model someone you look up to, you can model an expert in your area, you can model anyone whose way of doing things resonate with you.
You do it knowing that you do whatever you’re modelling your own way.
Then notice how you feel.
If right now you think you are not capable of adapting things your own way, then let’s have a chat.
