In my previous article, we’ve discussed the similarities between goal setting in sport and in life.
Today, we are going to find out what are the main advantages of goal setting in business and life.
- First of all, goals keep your mind focused. Because, like a football match, the rules are simple and specific, you know what to do. You know what you want.
- Second, setting goals is a time saver. You don’t waste your time with things that you don’t want to do.
- Third, when faced with obstacles, you know what to do. Your mind is so focused that it will give you resources to zig-zag your way around the obstacle, or to pass the ball to somebody else to help you achieve your goal.
- And, to me the most important thing about setting goals, the biggest advantage is it reduces stress considerably. You may be apprehensive, or a little bit scared, especially if the goal is big.
Your goal should be very visible.
It should be so visible that, no matter where you are in your career, in your business, in your life, the minute you close your eyes, or even with your eyes open, you see it and you can move towards it. So, that reduces stress.
If you are a little bit scared, that’s fine because you know inside that you will get it, that you will get there. So, keep going.
Either if you get the help, or you don’t, zig-zag your way, skip over the obstacles, do whatever it takes until you get your goal.
And when you get there, or just before you get there, set up another goal and keep going.
This will keep your mind focused, to give you a direction to succeed.
