The Why Me Syndrome

Do you say to yourself:

“I have no choice.”

Or

“There’s nothing I can do.”

Or even:

“It’s not my fault.”

If the answer is “Yes” to all three questions then you have what I call the “Why Me?” syndrome.

The “Why Me” syndrome is a mindset.

Whereby everything that happens to you is not within you but “out there”.

It’s due to circumstances, to blame, it’s not my fault, it’s unfair.

And when you are in this mindset that everything is “out there” you allow yourself to lose control of the problem, of the situation.

And when you lose control you feel stuck.

You can’t take action.

And that is because it is not within you.

It’s so far out that it is completely out of reach.

When you can’t take action you end up with two things:

Frustration and Anger.

Or you can change your mindset.

You change the mindset by understanding and accepting that everything that happens to you is your responsibility.

Yes, your responsibility.

Even though it wasn’t your fault.

Even though you didn’t deserve it.

Even though you didn’t ask for it.

It happened to you so it becomes your responsibility.

When you are in this mindset, you accept that and when you get that, you take back control.

And when you are in control it allows you to have the resources to support you in finding a solution to the issue.

What can I do to solve it?

How do I solve it?

Who can help me solve it?

And what you get in the end is the result you want.

So you have control of whats going on in your life.

Most importantly what you also get is that the “Why Me?” question becomes totally irrelevant.

It does not matter anymore “why”.

“It happened to me, I have control, I control the results I want”.

So this is the challenge for this week.

The minute and I do mean the minute which is that split second, you catch yourself thinking “Why Me?”

Immediately switch to the side of control.

Understanding and accepting that it happened to me and it is my responsibility, I have the resources and the control to get the results I want.

And that to me is empowering.

Now the more you do it the easier it gets to shift the mindset.

The easier it gets to have the answers to find the solution to the problem.

So practice.

Empower yourself.

Take control of your life.
