Today I’d like to focus on the differences between being in control of your life and being controlling.
When you are in control, you have the confidence, the clarity and the ability to adapt and change any project you are involved with. Therefore, you constantly get the results that you want.
The other side of being in control is being controlling.
This is particularly true if you are a team leader, or when your business is growing and you need help. Even though you may believe that you can do anything, you may feel some resistance in accepting that you cannot do everything. So, as a team leader, you may struggle to delegate if you are controlling. And so, you may struggle to get help.
When you are struggling to get help, you may think that nobody can do it as well as you can.
Well, if you believe that you are absolutely right.
Nobody can do it as you do.
This applies to all of us. Because as you know we are unique. We…
- experience reality in different ways,
- see the world through different eyes,
- have different ways to understand facts
- different ways of learning
- and of doing things.
That is why we are unique. (Read more: What makes us unique)
So, yes, nobody will or can do things as you do.
However, instead of focussing on this difficulty, let’s focus on different.
Different is the opposite of same. It is not synonymous of wrong.
Of course, people won’t do things exactly as you do, but this doesn’t mean that they are wrong. It doesn’t mean that they can’t do it.
When you change your perspective from wrong to different, you gain confidence and you build trust.
Your team or your staff will help you to achieve your goals.
At the end of the day, as long as you get the results that you want, as long as you achieve your goals, it doesn’t matter how you got there, does it?
So, instead of being controlling, think being supportive.
In being supportive of your team they will support you. And as a team, you will constantly get the results and goals that you have set out.
